General Info

Doug’s North Carolina BBQ, located at 1235 Chattahoochee Ave NW in Atlanta, is the kind of spot you stumble upon once and keep coming back to. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming, like a neighborhood restaurant that locals quietly swear by. The space is simple but comfortable, making it a great place to sit down, slow down, and focus on what really matters-the food.

The menu leans into classic barbecue flavors, and you can tell there’s a strong focus on authenticity. Every dish feels thoughtfully prepared, with that rich, smoky character you expect from North Carolina-style BBQ. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick bite or planning a longer meal, the variety on the menu makes it easy to find something satisfying. It’s the kind of place where reviews tend to highlight consistency, and after my visit, I understand why.

One thing that stood out to me was how easy the overall experience felt. The restaurant accepts reservations, which is helpful if you’re visiting during busy hours, especially since it draws both locals and tourists. Service flows smoothly, and the staff keeps things moving without making you feel rushed. It strikes a nice balance that adds to the overall comfort of the visit.

Practical details are also well covered. There’s parking available, which is always a plus in Atlanta, and the restaurant accepts debit cards, so you don’t have to worry about carrying cash. Clean restroom facilities are available too, which might seem like a small thing, but it makes a difference when you’re settling in for a full meal.

What I appreciated most was how approachable everything felt. There’s no pressure or pretension-just a straightforward dining experience centered around good food and a relaxed vibe. It’s easy to imagine dropping by after work, meeting friends, or even bringing out-of-town guests who want a taste of local barbecue culture.

Doug’s North Carolina BBQ isn’t trying to reinvent anything, and that’s exactly its strength. It focuses on delivering a dependable, enjoyable experience with a menu that keeps people coming back and a location that’s easy to access.

What customers say?

“ I came here for the first time. The staff were super friendly. I asked the team about a million questions regarding food allergies and he double checked everything and patiently answered them. He made sure I had a peace of mind when trying the food. I even came back a few minutes later and asked another question and they answered politely. Highly recommend this place. ”

“ The food was A1! As a NC native, it was so good to have a taste of home while I was on vacation. There’s several plate options depending on your budget. While waiting for my order to be ready, it was really nice to have the Food hall to walk through. Turkey options are scarce so it was great having this place as an available option! ”

“ Brisket was very tender and perfect flavor. Typically, I see the red rim below the bark, but this was fully done brown and the taste was great. The greens were great and the kale slaw was good. $32 I believe and I really had no complaints. Maybe it could’ve came with cornbread or Texas toast, but this was fine. Guy was cool at the register and putting my plate together. I’d come back here and recommend. The thin barbecue sauce is vinegar tasting and delicious if you like that kind of taste and thinness. It’s very thin though so you may not expect it as bbq sauce. They have another regular barbecue sauce option also. ”

“ Friendly service. Unique menu featuring mostly Turkey BBQ (that was surprisingly tasty- though it’s not bbq pork) and brisket. See menu photo. Trendy & modern atmosphere- this is a food court style booth located in The WorksAtl. Collards had a good amount of heat and good flavor/ texture. Macaroni and cheese was way too peppery for me (not kid friendly) and creamy would be better to tone down the heat on the meat and collards. North Caroline style vinegar based sauce was good (also a little spicy) but I preferred their “sticky” sauce that was more traditional style thick sweet sauce. (Like Stubbs sticky sweet) This place was on the pricey side for me at $31 for a bbq platter with 2 sides not including a beverage. 5 of us ate here for $130 and 2 ppl were sharing entrees! Very few drink options, a few can soft drinks to choose from or bottled water (no cups or ice) served in the can tepid temperature. If you’re in Atlanta, serve Coke products. I also wised there was seating / tables nearby. Just a bar which isn’t great for group dining. Outside tables available but it was too chilly so we walked all the way out of the food court into the mall hallway to find a table which made it difficult to go back for simple things like sauce or napkins. The mall tables have an odd fixed lamp thing in the way- you can’t see or talk to the person in front of you. Overall, the brisket was good (I prefer smoked and this is cooked on a griddle) but three slices for $31 is skimpy on value. I really want to like this place- mostly because the people seemed great and it has a good vibe. Not sure if I will be back though. Just need more value for price or some other reason that this place would stand out as exceptional. ”

“ I had the mac and cheese bowl with brisket. The brisket was very tender and the sauce was decent. They had good customer service and were very kind. ”

“ SO DERN GOOD! The 910 Platter was hitting. Sides: baked beans and collard greens top tier. Banana Pudding was sensational. Fonzo was amazing and such a great help!!!! Yall don’t play yourself. Come on. ”
